  2. The Kottiyoor Mahadeva Temple, located in the northern Indian state of Kerala, is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple's beginnings can be traced back to the age of the Puranas. It is believed that this temple was built by Parasurama, one of the ten avatars of Vishnu, who came to give away land he had retrieved from sea.

The Kottiyoor Mahadeva Temple offers a unique experience as it is open only during two festivals every year - Aarattu and Thiruvompadi. During Aarattu festival, which usually falls in April or May each year, devotees gather for a pilgrimage for three days and get blessings from different Gods and Goddesses present at the temple premises.
